The Romney Hythe & Dymchurch Railway 2011

The Romney Hythe and Dymchurch Railway is a 15 inch miniature express railway 13.5 miles long and runs from Hythe to Dungeness on the Kent Coast. Built by Captain JEP Howey in the 1920s it has the largest collection of one third scale express steam and diesel locomotives in the World.

Most of the locomotives are featured including a dramatic cab ride and trackside action with Dr Syn. Amazing footage of Northern Chief taken with some parallel running on the double track from a special camera train driven by the railway's general manager Danny Martin. There is full coverage of the all action Autumn Gala with double and treble heading. Also featured is the family weekend with Billy The Bug and Friends.

This DVD was filmed with the full co-operation of the Railway by GWP. The script was written by GWP with technical help from Andy Nash who drives Northern Chief in the film, and narrated by Nigel Williams. Filmed and edited by Graham Whistler and Jeff Freestone in 2011. Also available in BluRay. This is the 4th DVD GWP have made of this railway.

Puffing Billy

Australia's Finest

In November 2009 the RVR team was in Australia visiting Puffing Billy and they asked us to make a video for them. This was a pleasure, as it is among the best heritage railways in the world, and is certainly the most friendly we've ever visited. So here is the result with a programme about this wonderful, steam, 2ft 6ins gauge railway in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia - the Puffing Billy. Rescued from the scrapper in the 1950s, with the dedication of volunteers, and staff, and earning widespread public support, the line was restored in its entirety by 1998. This exciting steam railway through the Dandenong Hills is now big business, with 250 thousand visitors per year and 47 paid staff. It runs 364 days per year, and the vintage locomotives and carriages offer education, entertainment and enjoyment to all. This video takes you behind the scenes on Puffing Billy, to have a look at things that you may otherwise never see. Whether you're on a visit, thinking about one, or just like the trains, here is an hour-long programme packed full of interesting stuff and with an informative commentary: Look into the locoshed, when the engines are steaming up for the day, have a peep inside the workshop that keeps everything running reliably, ride on the footplate, have a look at lunch on Steam and Cuisine, learn about the steep gradients and curving track in difficult terrain that made Puffing Billy what it is. Also thrill to the sound of little engines working hard. What a great little railway this is!

The clarity of BluRay on a 40inch flat screen TV look quite fabulous - we know 'cos we've got one. At LAST something that you can sit in front of and REALLY ENJOY your trains. MMMMMMM……. You ought to try it - on a big screen it is by far BETTER than the difference between VHS and DVD - and that was good.

All the programmes offer the scenes with an informative commentary, but with lots of the natural sounds, especially from steam locomotives working hard. Our programmes are all offered on DVD, in PAL format. VHS IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE. The DVDs play in the EU and Australia but you may need a multi-mode player in the USA and Japan. However it is our experience that the DVDs also work well in PCs.
